OREANDA-NEWS.  September 16, 2013. The resolution on creation of the new body and its Charter was approved by the Government at its sitting. The new body has been delegated functions to adopt and apply vine and wine policies.

The Bureau is to function under the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. It will be financed from the Fund of Viniculture and Wine. The National Bureau of Wine and Vine is to be in charge for implementing winemaking and winegrowing policies, protecting the domestic market from disloyal competitors and other negative factors, promoting Moldovan wine to the domestic and international markets, keeping the Register of winemaking companies.

The new body is also authorized to administrate and manage protected geographical indications and places of origin. The Bureau is to administrate the national brand of Moldovan wines and promote export of high-quality wines as it is done in many states. The Bureau of Vine and Wine is to be headed by the Director and the Coordination Board made of 13 representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, regional association of winemakers of wine named after protected geographical indications, namely Codru, Stefan Voda, Balti and Valul lui Traian, the Association of Producers of Cognac and Brandy, etc.

The director is to be selected as a result of the competition and appointed for 4 years by the order of the Ministry of Agriculture after coordination with the Coordination Board. Premier Iurie Leanca emphasized how important the creation of the National Bureau of Wine and Vine is for Moldova and demanded that the tasks set by the government to diversify markets of export of Moldovan wine and cognac be implemented faster.
