OREANDA-NEWS. November 21, 2013. This is provided by the amendments to various Moldovan- American intergovernmental agreements to be signed between Chisinau and Washington. During the meeting the Government of Moldova has approved start of negotiations on signing these documents.

In particular, the amendments to the annexes to the agreements on various projects and programs provide that U.S. aid to promote economic growth in Moldova will increase by about USD 5.04 million, and its total size will reach USD 32.72 million. These funds are grant U.S. aid to continue implementation of various programs aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the private sector, development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and creation of the new jobs in Moldova. Another amendment would increase U.S. funding to support local authorities in Moldova by USD 2.4 million – up to USD 11.91 million.

 These financial resources will be used to fund the investment projects in the regions, to improve services at municipal level, increasing their quality and quantity as well as improving financial management as well as energy efficiency at the municipal level. The amendment to the third agreement provides that the United States will allocate additional USD 2.55 million for the Program to strengthen legal state institutions and the total amount of grant aid will increase up to USD 7.46 million.

These funds were intended to improve the efficiency, transparency and accountability of the judicial system by strengthening the institutional and operational capacity of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, the Department of Judicial Administration and the National Institute of Justice. In addition, the support will be provided to the government and non-governmental organizations to promote reforms in the field of justice and improve the monitoring process. Particular attention will be paid to the automation of the trial process by full application of computerized judicial system.
