OREANDA-NEWS. December 05, 2013. The outstanding performance in sustainability of Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) has been recognised by winning the top award in the Sustainable Corporate Footprint category of the prestigious DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards 2013.

KPI, the international arm of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, won against fierce competition from organisations across many different industry sectors and from 17 countries. Entries were 72 per cent higher than the previous year and described by Johan van der Westhuyzen, a Director of DuPont, as ‘very impressive and wide ranging’.

Koen van Neyghem, President of DuPont Sustainable Solutions, EMEA, presented the award to KPI President Bakheet Al-Rashidi at the DuPont Executive Forum in Dubai on 24th September, in the presence of Ellen Kullman, Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont.

Bakheet Al-Rashidi says: “I am extremely proud of KPI’s achievements in sustainability and honoured to win this prestigious award on a world stage. It is testament to the outstanding efforts of our SHE group and of the many people involved across our operating units.”

An independent panel of judges chose KPI as the winner for its innovative Sustainable Filling Stations project. In Sweden, OKQ8 has built one of the world’s most sustainable filling stations near Stockholm. Incorporating a host of eco features, it uses 50 per cent less energy than traditional service stations.

In Italy, KPI is pioneering carbon neutral filling stations through its Q8 ZERO (Zero Emission Retail Outlet) programme, in which emissions generated across the retail network are offset by advanced engineering practices, renewable energy installations and forest plantations.

Bakheet Al-Rashidi concludes: “KPI will continue to take every measure to protect health, safety and the environment, and we will strive for ever higher standards of sustainability across our business.”
