OREANDA-NEWS. The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, met with Eni's CEO, Paolo Scaroni, and COO of Eni E&P, Claudio Descalzi, in Rome to discuss Eni's ongoing activities and projects in the Country, with particular focus on recent discoveries.

As previously announced, Eni and the Congolese state-owned company, Societe Nationale des Petroles du Congo (SNPC), will jointly explore the hydrocarbon potential of the Ngolo block, which is part of the Cuvette Basin. The block is located approximately 350 kilometers northeast from the capital Brazzaville. In the joint venture with SNPC, Eni will act as the operator for the exploration of the block through its owned subsidiary company, Eni Congo.

Eni has recently made an important oil and gas discovery in the Nene Marine exploration prospect located in the Marine XII Block, approximately 17 kilometers from the Congolese shoreline. Through Eni Congo, Eni is the operator and 65% stakeholder of the Marine XII block. Other partners include New Age with a 25% stake and SNPC with a 10% stake.

Eni has been present in Congo since 1968 and currently has an equity production of 110,000 barrels of oil per day in the country. Eni has been present in Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1960s and currently participates in exploration and production projects in Angola, Congo, Ghana, Gabon, Mozambique, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Kenya and Liberia.
