OREANDA-NEWS. The Belarusian government may choose to reduce the cigarette production quota for 2014 by 9.1% to 30 billion units, a source in the Belarusian government told.

The move may be prompted by shrinking sales of tobaccos on the domestic market, the official explained.

They suggest reducing the annual output quota by cutting the quota of OAO Grodno Tobacco Mill from 26 billion units to 23 billion units, while the quota for OOO Tabak-Invest will remain unchanged at 7 billion units.

There is a special government commission in Belarus to set annual quotas on cigarette production. Quotas may be adjusted on during the year depending on the situation on the market.
