OREANDA-NEWS. Anglo American plc (“Anglo American”) recognises that the departure from Alaska of its wholly owned US subsidiary (“Anglo Pebble”) will have a longer-term impact on local communities. Anglo Pebble has consulted extensively with local community stakeholders and based on these discussions has proposed projects, which it will directly fund, representing a total investment of USD 6 million.

These proposed projects include the Anglo American Scholarship Program covering academic tuition for students in the Bristol Bay area; the Tazimina Hydroelectric Expansion Project to significantly reduce the costs of heating for local communities; the Bristol Bay Economic Development Project to support local entrepreneurship and encourage inward investment to Alaska; and the Community Wellness Program to help address the health and social challenges in the region.
