OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2014. The consumer price index for Estonia rose 0.3 percent in March compared to February, and 0.2 percent compared to March of 2013, according to Statistics Estonia.

Over the last month, the index was influenced mostly by a 45 percent rise in plane tickets and the end of the seasonal sales on clothing and footwear. The index was also significantly altered by a rise in tobacco products by 3.2 percent, 1.3 percent cheaper motor fuel, 4.8 percent more expensive vegetables and 1.2 percent cheaper household electricity.

In the past 12 months, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by the prices of electricity that arrived at homes (down 7.2 percent), motor fuel (down 5 percent) and heat energy (down 4.7 percent). Food was 2.4 percent more expensive than a year ago – nearly a half of this increase was caused by the 6.3 percent price increase of milk and dairy products.

Compared to a year ago, Estonia has 14 percent cheaper mobile communication services, more expensive alcoholic beverages (3.1 percent) and a rise in the cost of tobacco (6 percent). In food products, the prices of cheese has increased the most (7.1 percent), and the prices of sugar (16 percent) and coffee (15 percent) have decreased the most.
