OREANDA-NEWS. Baltic Workboats has signed contract with Kazakshstan “KazEko Project” for 31-metre Ice class research vessel. This 8,6 meter wide vessel with 2,3 meter of draft is designed by Chernomorsudoproject (Ukraine). This research vessel will be used for different duties from oceanographic research to environmental monitoring mainly on Kazakstan sea areas of Kaspian Sea.

Vessel features large work area for scientists on aft deck from where straight access to laboratory is foreseen. The aft deck will feature lower platform access, A-Frame, 10-ton Fassi deck crane and 1-ton trawling winch.

At the aft part of superstructure will be situated a chemical-biological laboratory with sinks and workstations supported by 6m2 storage room for scientific equipment. At the forward end of the superstructure is a crew mess and galley, as well as laundry facilities. Vessel is designed to provide sufficient accommodation and cozy living areas for total of 20 scientists and crew. The vessel will be able to accommodate these people in eight cabins and a single cabin for the captain. The wheelhouse will have great all round visibility with direct access to the foredeck.

The vessel will be powered by a pair of Volvo Penta D9 main engines, each producing 261kW at 1,800 rpm. Driving a five-bladed FP propellers through a pair of ZF reversing reduction gears engines will give to the vessel a top speed of 11 knots. At a service speed of 10 knots, the vessel will have an operational range of over 1,000nm.
