OREANDA-NEWS. August 04, 2014. Sberbank was the general partner for the mobile services hackathon, which was organized by the Russian community of mobile application developers Apps4All.

Participants had the opportunity to listen to open source data experts, representatives from companies and partners (Microsoft, Samsung, RedMadRobot, UsabilityLab, NPTV, Looi) and leading experts in the field of mobile applications. About 60 teams took part in the programming marathon with the goal to create a prototype of a mobile financial service. 51 projects were submitted during the 24 hour competition.

Hacks included new scenarios for mobile payments and transfers, the development of a personal mobile financial helper and payment security, and the gamification of mobile financial services. The event prize money amounted to RUB 1 mln.

An application for managing personal and family finance was nominated for the best product. Second place went to a prototype solution that would allow users to receive the restaurant bill directly to their mobile phone and the option to split the bill between the people in their party. An electronic queue integrated with a mobile banking application won the technical solution nomination. Second place went to a service that analyzes “financial health” and provides the user with suggestions on managing their finances. In addition, the hackathon awarded a special prize to a crowd funded donation service.

“The purpose of the hackathon was to take another step towards creating an open ecosystem of financial services developers and designers,” said Svyatoslav Ostrovsky, Managing Director at Sberbank’s Bank XXI. “Similar events will help us to expand the boundaries of traditional financial services.”
