OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus' sugar export proceeds reduced 18% year on year in January-August 2014 to USD 188.06 million, a source in the profile ministry told.

Belarus exported 286,800 tonnes of sugar in January-August 2014, down 21.2% year on year. Russia was a major destination for Belarus' sugar exports.

The average export price of sugar stood at USD 656.04 per tonnes in Jan-Aug 2014 to compare with USD 629.3 per tonne in Jan-Aug 2013.

Belarus exported 561,100 tonnes of sugar in 2013 (451,200 tonnes in 2012) at the average price of USD 619.88 per tonne (USD 646.94).

There are four sugar plants in Belarus (based Gorodeya, Zhabinka, Skidel, Slootsk), which process 28,000 tonnes of sugar beet a day. The sugar capacity of Belarus' home market totals 380,000 tonnes and is expected to grow to 720,000 tonnes.
