OREANDA-NEWS. Sydney Airport will be a silver sponsor of the Newtown Festival, to be held on Sunday 9 November.

"We have a strong community giving program and are delighted to support the Newtown Festival for the second year running," Sydney Airport chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.

"The festival brings together local artists, performers and chefs to raise money for the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, which provides important community services in Sydney's inner west.

"Throughout the year, Sydney Airport works closely with and supports our local community through partnerships and sponsorships with schools, organisations and charities.

The 36th Newtown Festival is expected to draw more than 80,000 people to sample the entertainment and stalls which line the streets of Newtown.

Festival director Sue Anderson said partnerships with organisations like Sydney Airport are essential to the success of this popular event and the community at large.

"With the support of our sponsors and partners such as Sydney Airport, the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is able to assist over 6,500 people with issues including homelessness, housing assistance and emergency relief," Ms Anderson said.

"The money raised through the Newtown Festival and through the support of our sponsors funds counselling support, English conversation classes and women's support groups."

"We encourage everyone to head to Newtown for the festival and wish the whole community a wonderful and successful event this Sunday," said Ms Mather.
