OREANDA-NEWS. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW Joint Stock Company, based in the Nizhny Novgorod region, part of United Metallurgical Company, OMK Joint Stock Company, Moscow) has had its new railway wheels (of its own design) certified as being in accordance with European TSI requirements.

Following an audit held by representatives of the Czech Research Institute for Railways (VuzkumnyUstavZeleznici, VUZ), VSW received a certificate for the wheels of the new VK001 and VK002 low-tension designs, which have an axle load of 23.5 tf and 25 tf.

"The trials showed that VSW's new rolled wheel product complies with the European requirements. According to estimates, VSW's new wheels have improved reliability characteristics as compared to the VА314/324 and VА318/319 wheel designs popular in Europe, and they also have the lowest weight among European analogs. The certificates will enable the factory to deliver the new wheels to European consumers," said Sergey Filippov, VSW's Managing Director.

TSI, the Technical Specifications for Interoperability, are the requirements that are applied to railways infrastructure, equipment, systems, and rolling stock in European Union countries. Interoperability (technical and operations compatibility) means that VSW's wheels can be used for producing and operating rolling stock in EU countries.
