OREANDA-NEWS. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation ("NSSMC") has exchanged a protocol regarding the long-term contract for stable supply of tinplate with NAMPAK PRODUCTS LIMITED (CEO: Andre de Ruyter, hereinafter referred to as "NAMPAK").

According to the study of U.N. agency, Africa is expected to expand its food consumption by 2.2 times, during the period of 2000 to 2050. This is due to its high growth rate of population and economy, and therefore showing a big demand of high quality tinplate required for stable production of canned meals.

NAMPAK has 17 steel-can manufacturing factories across Africa mainly located in Republic of South Africa. Placing itself the Africa's largest can manufacturer, NAMPAK produces wide variety of cans such as fish can, fruit can, general can, crown cap and other various can related products.

For the past five years, NAMPAK and NSSMC repeated periodical technological exchanges, and made action in manufacturing high quality tinplate while pursuing cost reduction. In addition, our high precision of delivery being evaluated, NAMPAK and NSSMC have agreed in supplying 35,000tons to 40,000tons until the end of 2016. Mainly supplied materials consist of DR materials (thinner gauge tinplate that is cold-rolled twice, specialized to maintain superior formability), and special materials for 2 piece can (suitable for the high-speed can making line).

NSSMC will continue its effort in capturing the growth of overseas demands, and contribute to improve people's standard of living around the world through our support to food industry.
