New Jersey bill to permit self-serve fueling

OREANDA-NEWS. A New Jersey lawmaker will file a bill to let the state's motorists pump their own gasoline and diesel at service stations.

New Jersey and Oregon are the only two states in the US that do not allow end-users to pump their own gasoline. New Jersey Assemblyman Declan O'

Scanlon plans to introduce the legislation shortly. Oregon lawmakers filed similar legislation last month.

The bill would decriminalize the act of pumping one's own motor fuel and provide for self-service islands at New Jersey fueling stations. The bill would also mandate facilities to operate at least one full-service island for three years following the bill's enactment.

Senators Paul Sarlo and Gerald Cardinale will sponsor a similar bill in the state's senate.
