OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2015. Throughout a year hundreds of kilometres of the defensive structures along the state border between Ukraine and Russia have been built. The cost of the European Rampart project was reduced fourfold, the project of construction of border facilities has become modern and cost-effective. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk during a Government meeting on Wednesday, August 19.

The Head of Government reminded that a year ago the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to launch a project to tighten security along the entire state border between Ukraine and Russia: "Every independent state must control and protect its territory". From that time, the European Rampart has undergone drastic changes, first of all, the Government has reduced its value fourfold - from UAH 18 billion to almost UAH 4 billion.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that during the year the effectiveness of control over the state line had been significantly improved, both engineering facilities had been erected and a system of electronic control over the state border installed. The Prime Minister promised to visit the site together with the Chairman of the State Border Service, "as we always do it once in three month."

"Our independent Ukraine will construct the state border with the Russian Federation, and it will be a tangible area, which will deprive Russian-led terrorists of an opportunity to freely cross the Ukrainian-Russian state border, to deliver weapons, to travel illegally. And Ukraine will do everything to defend its territory", accentuated the Prime Minister. "The state budget envisages appropriate funding. And the decision to create the state company to construct the state border facilities has proved to be correct," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

"Following the approved blueprint, we are building the European Rampart and doing everything to ensure that Ukraine is secure, every citizen of the country should be aware that the State Border Service, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are defending the Ukrainian territory, and we have done everything possible to isolate ourselves from an aggressor state, which is the Russian Federation", stressed the Prime Minister.
