OREANDA-NEWS. October 16, 2015. Singapore Exchange (SGX) is partnering SIM University (UniSIM) on My First Stock Carnival @ UniSIM, an investment carnival to be held in UniSIM, as part of ongoing efforts to educate and encourage NIBIs (Not Invested But Interested), many of whom are students, to embark on their investment journey.

To be held over 15 to 17 October (Thursday to Saturday), My First Stock Carnival @ UniSIM takes on an interactive approach that takes the participants through an investor journey which includes investment games, investment talks and a resource centre to provide information and tools for investing. All participants will also receive the SGX My First Stock Guidebook to help them learn about investing. Students and members of the public are welcome to attend this three-day event.

To engage students in this investor education endeavour, a group of 30 UniSIM undergraduates underwent investment training at SGX Academy, and will assume the role of SGX Student Ambassadors at the carnival to share investment knowledge and guide fellow students on the SGX Investor Roadmap.

In conjunction with the carnival, an SGX Academy - UniSIM Investment Symposium will be held on 17 October where speakers from the SGX Academy will share investment concepts and provide practical investment tips. Topics include “An Insight into Successful Trading and Investing Techniques” and “Access the World with Exchange Traded Funds”.

This partnership follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by SGX and UniSIM on 20 February 2014 to collaborate on developing and providing investor education to the public. Since then, SGX has worked with UniSIM on an investment module based on training content from SGX and delivered by SGX’s Market Strategist. UniSIM and SGX also co-organised an Investor Education Day in September 2014.

Lynn Gaspar, Head of Retail Investors at SGX, said: “Our continuing partnership with UniSIM provides an excellent opportunity for students and public to acquire investing knowledge through a fun and interactive way at the SGX My First Stock Carnival. New investors can attend investment symposiums led by SGX Academy trainers to learn simple investing strategies and become more financially confident. SGX continues to place a high priority on investor education, and we encourage all new investors to join us at the Carnival to get started on your investing journey.”

Professor Tsui Kai Chong, Provost, SIM University said: “UniSIM is delighted to partner SGX to offer free educational events for students and members of the public.  Such events are aligned with the University’s mission to offer lifelong education to equip learners for a better life.”

This is the third time that SGX is holding the My First Stock Carnival.
