Autostat: Share of dealers’ sales of used cars is growing
OREANDA-NEWS. October 22, 2015. Despite the decline in sales in the market of used cars (-21.7% for the first eight months of this year), the higher share of them accounts for authorized dealers and it shows the dynamics better than the market. The transition of buyers from the markets to showrooms is connected with the fact that already a number of distributors offer a special program of sales of used cars. They are Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover, Porsche, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroen, Skoda, Volkswagen, Volvo, Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes. In the pilot mode there are working programs for Renault, KIA, and Mazda. The launch of the program was announced by the company Hyundai.
According to the agency AUTOSTAT, for the first eight months the share of sales of used cars through dealerships of eleven brands that were mentioned above increased to 4.6% of the total volume of the secondary market for these brands (from 4.1% in January-August of the last year). The share of dealer sales in the premium segment was 7.5% and in the mass - only 3.1%.
If we consider the market of used cars under the age of 5 years, then through dealers it was sold 8.0% of the secondary market for the studied brands. And in the "premium" this share comes to 14.7%, while in the mass segment – it is only 5.1%.
It should be noted that this year the growth of sales of cars with mileage through dealers is contributed by the state program of parc renewal. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, for the first eight months it was sold 127 thousand new cars instead of adopted by trade-in.
"The share of sales of used cars through the official dealers will continue to grow”, - says Sergey Udalov, the executive officer of the agency "AUTOSTAT", - despite the market downturn. For dealers it is a new additional and fairly stable source of income and they will strive for its growth. For distributors – the offer of Certified Pre-Owned is expanding range of customers due to the reducing of the price threshold, and favorable conditions of purchase of the used car increase the loyalty of current owners. For customers in the salon – it is a certified car with a warranty and a clear history of ownership".
