OREANDA-NEWS. The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) has elected Alexey Mordashov, Chairman of PAO Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and steel-related mining companies, as a member of the association’s 2015/2016 executive committee at Worldsteel’s 49th Annual Conference in Chicago, USA. Alexey Mordashov is the only Russian representative in Worldsteel’s executive body.

Alexey Mordashov played an active role in Worldsteel’s 49th Annual Conference, co-moderating the panel, “Innovative approaches towards a better future steel industry” with Dr Louis Schorsch, CEO of ArcelorMittal Americas. Panelists discussed developments within the industry that could support innovative solutions for steel plants to benefit manufacturers.

Alexey Mordashov highlighted the importance of innovation for the steel industry and indicated three key areas for steelmakers to focus on: using innovative technologies to provide better customer care, working with steel producers to generate innovative ideas for the industry and cooperating to reduce negative environmental impacts.

During Worldsteel’s annual conference the Steelie Awards winners are announced. This year Severstal’s corporate website (www.severstal.com) was short-listed for the “Steel Industry Website of the Year” category, along with four other websites. The category looks at overall design, page loading, range and relevance of information, ease of navigation, and the use of technical design. The short list is put together by a Worldsteel panel of experts.

Since 2010, Worldsteel has held the Steelie Awards Competition annually. Members are judged on their contribution to sustainable development within the global steel industry. In 2014, the Steelie Awards awarded Alexey Mordashov “Steel industry speaker of the Year”.

In 2014 Worldsteel’s 48th Annual Conference was held in Moscow.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest and fastest-growing global industrial associations. Its members represent approximately 85% of global steel production. The World Steel Association comprises 170 steel manufacturers, including 8 Russian producers, national and regional associations of steel manufacturers and industrial research institutes. Severstal was the first Russian company to join Worldsteel in 2010.
