OREANDA-NEWS. Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that the company is exploring a strategic partnership with GE Digital, a new GE organization that brings together all of GE’s digital capabilities in the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), and that the companies have signed a definitive agreement to develop the first pilot project leveraging GE’s Predix®*1 Industrial IoT platform.

As part of efforts to build a common platform, “Toshiba IoT Architecture”, to serve as reliable infrastructure and efficiently support all of its IoT solutions and services, Toshiba is collaborating with GE to further strengthen its Industrial IoT capability for its platform. The first pilot project will focus on validating a proof of concept for Toshiba’s building facilities maintenance, operations efficiency and preventive maintenance optimization. In this pilot case, Toshiba will use the Predix® cloud to manage data from its industrial products and provide visualization, analysis and prediction, augmenting Toshiba’s existing predictive maintenance infrastructure.

Toshiba and GE will also explore other opportunities for integration between Toshiba’s IoT related technologies and solutions, such as Chip to Cloud (C2C)*2 and Media Intelligence*3, and GE’s Predix® platform.

Combining the long-term industrial expertise and new information and communications technologies of both companies, Toshiba and GE will work together to respond to new opportunities; advancing the vision of the Industrial Internet for customers across the businesses they serve.

*1. Predix® is the foundation for all of GE's Industrial Internet applications, providing powerful, consistent, secure, and scalable support for the solutions to optimize business activities.
*2. Chip to Cloud (C2C) is a solution to support easier transformation to IoT of devices with a cloud platform that processes System on Chip, end point agent and sensor information.
*3. Media Intelligence is a knowledge processing technology that combines letters and languages with voices and images.
