OREANDA-NEWS. Gazprom Neft has successfully completed testing of a Russian rotary steerable system for directional drilling at its Vyngapurovskoye field. The system was developed by St Petersburg’s State Research Centre of the Russian Federation CSRI Electropribor, under a cooperation agreement concluded during the 2015 St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The prototype rotary steerable system for 222-milimetre bore heads is intended for the drilling of horizontal and directional wells and currently has no equivalent in Russia. The mechanical and electrical parts of the rotary steerable system proved able to successfully withstand borehole conditions throughout 12 hours’ intensive operation. The system proved successful in all tasks set during pilot testing. Testing was undertaken by colleagues from Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz, with the participation of colleagues from the company’s research and development (R&D) centre.

Abdulla Karaev, Head of Procurement and Capital Construction, Gazprom Neft, commented: “Gazprom Neft monitors the market constantly, and is always willing to cooperate with Russian producers wishing to put forward high-quality developments, at competitive prices. We are always happy to undertake pilot testing of new equipment at our own fields — something that allows our partners to fully assess the needs of our business. Such collaboration gives the opportunity to promptly share information on those technical specifications that are essential in considering any engineering solution.”
