Walmart Neighborhood Market Brings New Jobs and Fresh Groceries to Sumter
“We are proud to be a part of the Sumter community,” said store manager Jason Woodlief. “We look forward to opening and providing our community with Walmart’s everyday low prices for upcoming holiday parties.”

Job Opportunities at Walmart
The store will employ up to 95 associates for full- and part-time positions within the store. Applicants interested in careers at Walmart can apply at a store’s hiring kiosk or online at Walmartcareers.com. Woodlief began his Walmart career in 2000 as an hourly associate at a store in Goose Creek.
At Walmart, more than 75 percent of store management teams started as hourly associates. In 2014, 160,000 associates were promoted, and 40 percent of those promotions went to associates within the first year of their employment. Earlier this year Walmart announced it would be investing more than $1B in higher wages and training and other enhancements for its associates.
Renewing American Manufacturing
Walmart committed to purchase an additional $250 billion in products that support American jobs by 2023. Walmart buys products from Louis Hornick & Company, a New York-based manufacturer that makes window coverings and home textiles. Louis Hornick & Company is establishing a new manufacturing facility in Allendale County, South Carolina, which is expected to create 125 new jobs over the next 3 years. A selection of products from Louis Hornick & Company will be available at the new Walmart store in Sumter.
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $8,000 in grants from or the Walmart Foundation to local community groups including Sumter United Ministries, Sumter High School, the Special Olympics, Swamp Fox Chapter #298 Air Force, the Sheppard Center of Sumter and the Harvest Hope Food Bank. The new store will also continue a commitment by Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to fight hunger in Sumter and across the U.S. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation recently exceeded a $2 billion goal to fight hunger one year ahead of schedule and have donated more than 1.5 billion pounds of food to those in need across the country.
