OREANDA-NEWS. ING-DiBa in Germany has marked its fiftieth year with a record profit.

The bank said it made a pre-tax profit of EUR 1,115 million in 2015 and signed on 450,000 new customers.

ING-DiBa has more than 8.5 million retail customers and 100 German corporate clients. As Germany’s first online broker, ING-DiBa reached the one million brokerage-account milestone in 2015.

CEO Roland Boekhout said continuing digitalisation at the bank was opening up new opportunities to serve customers better.

“The application of new, digital technologies allows us to reduce entry barriers for prospective customers, and convince them of our offers and services,” he said.

The bank’s retail loan book staged healthy growth in 2015. The volume of consumer loans rose by almost EUR 1 billion to a total of EUR 5.7 billion. New mortgage business stood at EUR 10.4 billion, which is 80% higher compared to the previous year. After redemption payments, the total mortgage volume stood at EUR 64.7 billion (EUR 63.2 billion in the previous year).

It was a good year at Germany’s third largest retail bank. It was rated "Germany's Most Popular Bank" by €uro magazine for the ninth consecutive year. And €uro also named the bank as “Germany’s Best Bank” for the eighth year in a row.

The bank was also chosen as one of Germany’s best employers in the 2015 “Great Place to Work” employer competition. More than 3,700 employees worked for ING-DiBa by the end of 2015 in its offices located in Frankfurt (head office), Hanover and Nuremburg, and Vienna in Austria. It employed an extra 220 people in 2015 to help implement its growth strategy.

ING-DiBa’s core business segments in retail banking are savings, brokerage, mortgages, consumer loans and current accounts. Its Wholesale Banking operations comprise the bank’s business with corporate customers, among them major international companies.
