OREANDA-NEWS. Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) today announced that Ren?e James, former President of Intel Corporation, will be engaged as an Operating Executive by the global Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) sector team. She begins her duties on February 29th.

As an Operating Executive, Ms. James will advise the Carlyle team on industry and operational due diligence for potential investments and may serve on boards of Carlyle portfolio companies in her area of expertise. She becomes part of a group of more than 25 senior business executives – with an average of 40 years of experience – who have been engaged as consultants to help Carlyle invest wisely and create value across a range of industries.

James Attwood, Managing Director and head of the global Telecommunications, Media and Technology team, said, “Ren?e brings a range of experience and depth of understanding that will help strengthen our thinking about and investments in the global TMT space. She has a track record of value creation in the technology industry, spanning hardware, manufacturing, security, software and services.”

At Intel, Ms. James was President and a member of the company’s Executive Office. During her 25+ year career at Intel, Ms. James spearheaded the company’s strategic expansion into providing software and services for enterprise, security and cloud-based computing. Prior to her role as President, Ms. James was the Executive Vice President responsible for the P&L and R&D of the Software and Services Group for almost a decade. Early in her career she served as Chief of Staff to former Intel Chairman and CEO Andrew Grove.

Ms. James is Vice Chair of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. She also serves as a non-executive director of Vodafone Group Plc as well as on the boards of Oracle, Citigroup and Sabre Corporation.

In 2014 Ms. James was ranked 21st on Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business list, and she is ranked 45th on the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list.
