OREANDA-NEWS. February 19, 2016. The World Bank is ready to support new projects aimed at developing electronic services in the Republic of Moldova to contribute to the development of sectors and regions disadvantaged economically and technologically, and promotion of transparency in the public services of the Republic of Moldova.

This was announced by Alex Kremer, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova in Chisinau at the meeting with the Minister of Information Technologies and Communications Vasile Botnari.

According to Alex Kremer, currently the World Bank examines the possibilities to support the “Public Services Modernization” project. The objective of the new project is to extend the electronic services provided by public institutions at all levels, creating access points for citizens providing the opportunity to benefit from public services quickly and equally.

The World Bank’s representative mentioned that “in the development of electronic services the emphasis should be put on ensuring their interoperability and connection of existing information resources in order to provide services to citizens promptly, which, in fact, is the aim of the “E-Government Transformation in Moldova” project implemented by the support of the World Bank.

Vasile Botnari appreciated the willingness of the World Bank partners to contribute to the development of the Moldovan IT sector, which gains an important share in the national economy. The ITC Minister highlighted that „the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications promoted the National Strategy „Digital Moldova 2020”, which is focused on modernizing the digital infrastructure and creation of free access to personal data, as well as the development of digital content and e-services. In order to achieve the objectives set out in this strategy, as well as in the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union on the Information Society, the Ministry has set itself the objective to carry out several ambitious projects for ICT development, for the implementation of which it relies on the support provided by the development partners, including the World Bank”.

The issue concerning ensuring the interoperability of systems and  personal data protection made a separate topic of the discussion. ”Once the access to the state registers content is provided, it is necessary to develop an effective mechanism to protect personal data, a task that is already included in the work plan of the Ministry”, Minister Vasile Botnari said.
