OREANDA-NEWS. February 22, 2016. Customs authorities were briefed today on best practice for technical checks, at a workshop organised by IRU and its member, the Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE).

Lead by Danish Customs expert, Bent Rasmussen, with support from the UAE Federal Customs authority, the workshop gave customs officers from Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and UAE the perfect framework to exchange best practice on technical inspections of vehicles and containers for secure transit under the UN TIR Convention.

Mohamed el badawy, a League of Arab States representative, notably emphasised the importance of becoming contracting parties to TIR, as the best way to achieve greater economic integration and boost intra-regional trade.
