OREANDA-NEWS. Aetna has been named to Fortune’s list of Most Admired Companies for 2016. The company was ranked second in the health insurance category.

Aetna became a Fortune 50 company in 2015. In a brief company profile, Fortune gave high marks to Chairman and CEO Mark Bertolini’s decision to increase wages for the company’s lowest paid employees in 2015.  In a Huffington Post blog following the wage announcement, Bertolini explained the reasoning behind the decision: “Top talent — at all levels — remains the scarcest resource in corporate America. Over the next 10 years, we will see leaders invest far more thought and effort into developing their human capital. Companies will go beyond the paycheck to consider how they can better impact employees’ quality of life which will at the same time deliver stronger long-term business results.”

The wage decision also helped Bertolini land on Fortune’s list of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders for 2015. The World’s 50 list is an assembly of “extraordinary men and women who are transforming business, government, philanthropy, and so much more.”
