OREANDA-NEWS The imposition of an embargo on Russian gas supplies is likely to cause the destruction of the European economy, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said, the Nepszava newspaper reported quoting Kossuth Radio. The prime minister explained the price increase in the EU and Hungary by the situation in Ukraine.

According to Orban, the residents of Hungary are not in immediate danger now, but the consequences of the special military operation of the Russian Federation cannot but affect the country. Orban stressed that a public and national defense fund for Hungary has been formed.

Earlier, the EU published in the official journal the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. It provides for, among other things, a gradual imposition of an embargo on oil imports from Russia. The ban will apply only to shipments by sea, while oil delivered through the Druzhba pipeline is not subject to restrictions. Also, the sixth package of European sanctions provides for cutting off Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank and Moscow Credit Bank from SWIFT.
