OREANDA-NEWS. Russia supplied 34.3 million tonnes of grain to other countries from the start of the growing season in July 2020 to January 2021. This is 25% more than the same period last year and the highest indicator in the entire history of the market, Igor Pavensky, head of the analytical center Rusagrotrans, told Vedomosti.

The wheat export record has also been updated - from July 2020 to January 2021, Russia exported 29 million tons of wheat abroad. The previous record for grain exports abroad was set in the same period in 2018-2019, when Russia sold 32.15 million tons of grain abroad in July-January.

The pandemic did not affect the plans at the beginning of the sowing campaign, and the harvest. The grain harvest in Russia in 2020 became the second largest after the record harvest of 2017 (86 million tons) - 125 million tons of grain in net weight at the end of the 2020 season, of which 82 million are wheat, which is 7.5 million tons more than a year earlier, according to preliminary data.

In December, the USDA raised the forecast for the harvest and export of wheat from Russia in the 2020-2021 agricultural year (from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021). The estimate for wheat harvest has been raised to 84 million from 83.5 million tons, while the forecast for wheat exports has been raised to 39 million from 38.5 million tons a month earlier.
