OREANDA-NEWS. Russian agricultural supervision may impose restrictions on the supply of shrimp from Ecuador to Russia in connection with the revealed violations of the requirements of the Russian Federation for these products. This was reported to journalists on the sidelines of the Green Week agricultural exhibition by the head of the Russian Agricultural Supervision Sergey Dankvert.

"Yesterday we had Ecuador. In the near future we will be forced to introduce restrictions on the whole shrimp, because we have detection", he said.

Dankvert also explained that the agency has introduced an enhanced control regime for shrimp from Ecuador and plans to get results within 1-1.5 months in order to make a final decision on the possibility of a ban.

According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of the Russian Federation, the import of crustaceans into Russia (shrimp also falls into this category) in 2018 amounted to 40.94 thousand tons. Deliveries from Ecuador amounted to 4.846 thousand tons (11.8% of the total), the country ranked fifth in imports after India, Greenland, China and Argentina.
