OREANDA-NEWSRussian Agricultural Supervision suspends the issuance of certificates for the export of wheat to Vietnam. This was reported to reporters by the official representative of the department Julia Melano.

"An official letter was sent to the Rosselkhoznadzor from the Vietnamese side requesting a temporary suspension of the issuance of phytosanitary certificates to wheat exporters. Implementation of additional measures to verify production batches is normal practice for importing countries. At the moment, Rosselkhoznadzor is working on issues related to the resumption of issuance with Vietnamese control representatives export certificates", she said.

Melano added that on October 20-22, the delegation of the Rosselkhoznadzor will be present at the unloading of Russian grain in Vietnam. According to her, negotiations will be held on the same topic there.

On Thursday, a Russian newspaper, citing a major grain exporter, reported that the Rosselkhoznadzor suspended the issuance of certificates for wheat supplies to Vietnam after reports of the presence of thistle seeds in the consignment. According to Sovecon, in 2017-2018, 2.1 million tons of grain from Russia was delivered to Vietnam and the country became the fourth largest buyer of Russian wheat after Egypt, Turkey and Bangladesh. In 2018-2019, agricultural supplies to Vietnam fell to 1.2 million tons.
