OREANDA-NEWS Russia has set a record for food supplies abroad in 2020. This information is reported by the RBC agency. Agricultural exports exceeded imports for the first time.

According to the calculations of the federal center "Agroexport" of the Ministry of Agriculture, Russia supplied 79 million tons of agricultural products worth 30.7 billion dollars to other countries. In general, Russian food was bought in 150 countries. The leaders in purchases were China, Turkey and Kazakhstan, a third of supplies fell on grain.

Nevertheless, it will most likely not be possible to repeat the record in 2021. This is due to the fact that at the end of last year, the authorities drew attention to the rise in prices for food, including those that were actively exported abroad. As a result, to stabilize prices, the government introduced a permanent mechanism for regulating grain exports.

Earlier in March, it became known that in the global food security index from The Economist Intelligence Unit, Russia ranked 24th with 73.7 points. As part of the ranking, researchers assess countries according to four criteria: food availability, availability, quality and safety, as well as the diversity of natural resources and their sustainability. Belarus bypassed Russia, occupying the 23rd line of the list.

According to the compilers of the rating, the countries that scored more than 60 points have a high level of food security, while those with more than 80 points have a very high level.
