OREANDA-NEWS In January, sales of new Lada cars in the EU soared 2.5 times in annual terms. Europeans bought 154 cars, according to data from the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA). In January last year, 61 Lada cars were sold in the region.

In general, the sale of new cars in the EU fell by six percent year-on-year, reaching a historic low of 682,596 thousand cars. ACEA expects that in 2022 the situation with the shortage of chips will begin to stabilize and the number of car registrations will return to growth, increasing by 7.9 percent.

Earlier, Lada became the most popular car brand in Russia, and its most popular models were Granta, Vesta and Kalina. Next are Hyundai brands with Solaris and Creta models, as well as KIA with Rio, Sportage and Ceed.

Russians, due to the global shortage of microchips for electronic control units in 2022, had previously predicted a sharp increase in prices for passenger cars. The price increase is already observed at the beginning of the year. Lada, KIA, Hyundai, Renault, Toyota, Mazda and Volkswagen have raised the cost of their models.

Earlier it became known that the court granted the request of the Prosecutor General's Office to recover 19 billion rubles from the Russian company Rolf. Claims arose initially to the founder of the company Sergey Petrov, who was a deputy of the State Duma from 2007 to 2016. While working in the lower house of Parliament, he continued to engage in Rolf, which was prohibited by law.
