OREANDA-NEWS. The automaker Volvo Cars has stopped the work of factories in Gothenburg and Ghent due to the lack of components important for the assembly of cars. This was due to a shortage of electronic chips, according to SverigesRadio.

It is noted that the pause in the production of models will last from August 30 to September 3. According to Volvo Cars spokeswoman Maria Dagman, employees of the plants during the lockdown will be able to do equipment maintenance, training, as well as take time off.

Earlier it was reported that Audi completely stopped production at the main plant in Ingolstadt. The temporary pause will last until August 30. The Russian plant in Togliatti, where a number of AvtoVAZ models are produced — Lada Granta, Xray, Largus and others, did the same. Both cases are associated with a severe shortage of electronic components for assembling new machines.

Auto expert Igor Morzharetto said that the automotive crisis associated with a shortage of chips will last in the world at least until the end of this year. The recovery of the industry, according to him, can occur in the first quarter of 2022.
