The wireless market of the future starts with innovation at the network: During his keynote address on September 8, 2016 at CTIA Super Mobility, John Stratton, Verizon’s EVP and President of Operations spoke about the unique position the industry is in when it comes to delivering game-changing solutions that will create growth and value for customers, and tangible benefits to society. Stratton noted that wireless infrastructure comprises the largest platform for technology innovation in the world – one that’s transforming huge swaths of our economy. And while infrastructure is key to delivering on the promise of the digital world, it’s not the whole answer. Stratton emphasized the need for strong partnerships as critical for IoT ecosystems to thrive, as well as open platforms like Verizon’s ThingSpace to make it easy to develop and scale solutions. Most importantly, he said that keeping the human experience at the center of our thinking is critical for using technology to address societal challenges, drive economic growth solve the digital divide, improve quality of life in our communities and make our society safer, cleaner and more energy efficient.

The deployment of Cat M1 is designed to bring down the cost to connect low power IoT solutions such as utility meters, remote sensors, and home automation devices. Verizon is taking direct aim at emerging low power technologies that don’t have the same scale, coverage, reliability and security as LTE.
  3. In related news, Verizon and Qualcomm announced a joint initiative to simplify IoT application development and transform customer experience.  For the first time, Verizon will integrate ThingSpace, Verizon’s web-based IoT platform designed for developers, into a Qualcomm Cat M1 chipset, giving developers access to advanced services, including security and diagnostics, at scale.
  4. Verizon also announced the development of a new Cat M1 solution for Neptune Technology Group to drive LTE innovation and sustainability in the water industry.  Verizon is also working with Qualcomm to provide low power, low bandwidth solutions for gas and electric companies.
