OREANDA-NEWSThe Russian Government Commission on Legislative Activities approved a bill to ratify the agreement of the CIS states on the use of military satellite communication systems and their further improvement. It is reported by the press service of the ministry.

The draft document was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Russia. The agreement of the CIS countries was signed in Kyzyl on June 6, 2018. "The goal of the agreement is to increase the reliability of the management of the armed forces of the CIS states, to organize interaction between them using satellite communications systems for military purposes", the government’s press service notes.

The agreement, in particular, provides for cooperation in order to create new satellite communications systems for military use, as well as an integrated satellite communications system for military use in the CIS countries. In accordance with the law on international treaties of the Russian Federation, this agreement is subject to ratification, as it affects the issues of Russia's defense. The corresponding bill will be considered at the next meeting of the government.

“In the interests of increasing the combat capabilities of the armed forces of the Commonwealth states, intergovernmental agreements were signed on the use of satellite communications systems for military purposes and their further improvement. And also on cooperation in the exchange of geospatial information”, the meeting said after the meeting.

It's noted that in the framework of improving the functioning of joint military systems, the defense ministers considered proposals for the further development of the Joint Air Defense System of the CIS.
