OREANDA-NEWSThe Supreme Court of India issued a verdict on Friday recognizing unconstitutional decisions by the authorities to restrict Internet access in Jammu and Kashmir. This was reported by the Indian TV channel.

"Freedom of speech and expression also includes the right to the Internet under Article 19 of the Indian Constitution", the court quoted the TV channel as saying. The judges noted that their task is to protect the rights of citizens, and they do not delve into the political reasons behind the decision to limit the Internet.

The Supreme Court also ordered the leadership of India to make public a list of all prohibitions imposed on the territory of Jammu and Kashmir for official consideration. "The restriction of the right to movement, access to the Internet and fundamental freedoms can't be carried out within the framework of an arbitrary decision of the authorities", he said in a statement.
