OREANDA-NEWS. The peak of activity of Internet scammers often falls on the eve of a long weekend like the May holidays. Dmitry Galov, cybersecurity expert at Kaspersky Lab, told Gazeta.Ru about this.

“At this time, companies begin to send out a large number of promotional messages and special offers. In such a stream, it is easier for attackers to get lost, and the likelihood that a person will lose their vigilance and follow a link from an extremely attractive offer increases,” the expert explained.

A similar opinion is shared by Maria Efremova, an analyst at Zecurion, an information security company. According to her, one of the main topics that attackers often exploit on the eve and during the long weekend is sales. Because, according to her, weekends are often accompanied by shopping.

“During the long weekend period, people are more relaxed than during working hours and often lose their vigilance, this is one of the reasons why cybercriminals are victims on the holiday weekend,” she said.

Galov from Kaspersky Lab added that in order to distance yourself from intruders during the weekend, you should follow the basic security rules that are relevant on any day, regardless of its status.

“You need to be careful, pay attention to the site address before entering bank card details on it; do not follow dubious links in mail, instant messengers and social networks; don't click on banner ads on suspicious sites,” he said.

As for online shopping, then, according to him, for these purposes you need to get a separate bank card and keep a small amount of money on it. It will not be superfluous to set a daily limit on withdrawals and transfers of money from this card.
