OREANDA-NEWS. Deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that the United States is trying to use the Internet solely to achieve Washington’s goals.

“It is quite natural that a number of countries, primarily the United States, are striving to use the Internet as their own fiefdom, as a tool to ensure exclusively their goals,” the politician said during a meeting on the creation of a regime of equal rights in Internet management.

Medvedev noted that the United States controls the system of domain names and IP addresses. According to him, “it shouldn’t be done in such a way.”

The Russian official recalled the decisions of the US administration regarding the owners of some Internet services, such as WeChat and others. In his opinion, all this shows that the United States intends to continue to pursue its policy on the Internet, interpreting the decisions of certain companies or countries solely in the context of ensuring its own national interests, regardless of international national competition and existing international rules.
