OREANDA-NEWS. Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden in a telephone conversation discussed an attempted coup in Belarus. This was confirmed by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said earlier that Putin, in a conversation with his American counterpart, raised the issue of the preparation of the assassination attempt on the head of the Belarusian state by the US special services, but there were no answers.

In an interview with Peskov, journalists asked him if he could confirm whether this topic was really raised in the conversation between Putin and Biden. "Yes, I can," Peskov replied.

Lukashenka on April 17 announced the arrest of a group of people who were preparing an attempt on the life of him and his children. According to the president of the republic, the US special services are involved in this. According to the head of the KGB of Belarus Ivan Tertel, the members of the disclosed group planned and began the practical implementation of a plan to physically eliminate Lukashenka and his family members, organize an armed rebellion in order to seize power. At the same time, the group included both citizens of Belarus and foreigners.

Meanwhile, as a spokesman for the State Department told RIA Novosti on April 18, "any suggestion that the US authorities were behind the attempted assassination of Lukashenka or participated in it are absolutely untrue."
