OREANDA-NEWS. The introduction of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on punishment for fakes in relation to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces) is necessary in conditions where it is impossible to regulate such activities, and they are dangerous. On Friday, March 4, political scientist Alexei Martynov expressed this opinion to Izvestia.

According to him, the world practice in the field of regulation of such information exists, including in a number of Western countries. So, in the UK, in addition to rather high fines, since the Second World War there has been a certain intersectoral committee, which includes special services, structural units of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, as well as representatives of the leading British media.

“And so they periodically issue releases, what is expedient and what is not expedient in terms of threats to the security of the UK. I mean what topics are appropriate to cover, and if appropriate, in what way,” said Martynov.

The political scientist emphasized that in such times of crisis that Russia is now experiencing, including against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine and the “undeclared sanctions war”, it is logical that certain restrictions should be imposed. And these measures, according to him, do not limit the performance by journalists of their professional duty.

He stressed that the activity of making fakes in the interests of a specific customer, including in the regime of military counter-propaganda, has nothing to do with journalism other than the method of transmission, for example, through the media, website, newspaper, radio, television, and so on.

“Laws like this just bring us back to pure journalism. To real journalism, no matter how paradoxical it may sound, ”he concluded.

Earlier on the same day, the State Duma at a meeting adopted in the third reading amendments to the Russian Criminal Code on punishment for fakes, discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and calls for sanctions.
