OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian side states that the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the tendency for criminals to use technologies to raise funds, promote terrorism, and recruit supporters of terrorist groups. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, "there are significant threats associated with the expansion of the activity of terrorists and criminals in the Internet space."

He also noted: "Moreover, the pandemic has accelerated the tendency for cybercriminals to use information and communication technologies, in particular for raising funds, promoting terrorism and recruiting new supporters of terrorist groups."

Also, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation spoke about cyberattacks on the resources of Western countries, allegedly from the Russian side. According to him, statements about the cyber threat from Russia in the West remain unfounded, technical data are not transmitted via expert communication channels, while the number of cyber attacks on information resources and critical infrastructure facilities in Russia is increasing.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation explained that "since activities in the information space are by their nature cross-border, it is important for the cooperation of the entire international community to effectively counter malicious activity."
