OREANDA-NEWS. The upcoming NATO summit in July 2022 will consider measures to strengthen security in connection with the situation in Ukraine. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, TASS reports.

According to the politician, Western countries are ready to accept new sanctions against Russia. He explained that in the summer the North Atlantic Alliance will be able to decide on the necessary changes.

At the NATO summit in July, we will decide on the future alignment of the alliance and the necessary military changes in light of the new security situation. We are unanimous in the opinion that it is necessary to support Ukraine with all our might, including the supply of weapons. And on the issue of sanctions, we are ready to take new measures,” Scholz said.

He also stressed that Western countries should "become more independent of Russian energy supplies as soon as possible."

Earlier, journalist Benjamin Norton, in an article published by Multipolarista, said that NATO plans to encircle Russia and China with the help of new military contracts with the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR). Moscow and Beijing have become the Alliance's new targets after Yugoslavia, Libya and Afghanistan. He also noted that the North Atlantic Alliance “flooded” Ukraine with weapons and trained its militants and at the same time began to expand into the Asian region.
