OREANDA-NEWS. November 17th saw the opening of the world unique research program Smart Energy City in Stockholm, Sweden. In the new city district Royal Seaport, 150 families are moving into smart apartments where they will be able to control their energy usage in real time and have it presented visually. This will form a foundation for the research conducted by the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The goal is to develop smart grids to better utilize renewable energy sources and to develop energy efficient homes. To monitor and research actual consumer behavior on this scale is world unique.

The Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg participated yesterday’s inauguration event together with representatives of the participating companies. The research program is based on a co-operation between ABB, Electrolux, Ellevio, Ericsson and Fortum. Together the companies have created an integrated system for sustainable cities where the appliances found in homes are connected to the smart grid. The program has been co-funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.
