OREANDA-NEWS. On June 1, 2017, ASE Group of Companies and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. signed General framework agreement for construction of the third stage of Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu state (India) and intergovernmental credit protocol necessary for implementation of the project.  The documents were signed at the 18-th Annual Russian-Indian Summit that was held in Saint-Petersburg. The agreement stipulates the construction of two power units No. 5 and No. 6 under the Russian design. The documents necessary for starting the construction of the third stage of Kudankulam NPP specify the obligations of the parties, the cost and other important conditions of cooperation.

The General framework agreement was signed by President of ASE Group of Companies Valery Limarenko and Chairman and Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. Sri Satish Kumar Sharma.

At the present time, all the formalities have been executed in order to finally launch the project of the construction of two new power units of Kudankulam NPP under Russian technologies. Within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in construction of additional power units of the nuclear power plant at the Kudankulam site, as well as in construction of nuclear power plants under Russian design at new sites in the Republic of India dd. December 5, 2008, the sides constructed and commissioned power units No. 1, No. 2 and started implementation of the project on construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of Kudankulam NPP with reactor plants VVER-1000 MW each. On 10.04.2014, there was signed the GFA for construction of Units 3 and 4 of Kudankulam NPP.

In January 2016, the Indian regulatory authority issued a permit for starting the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of Kudankulam NPP. Now the works for construction of these units is going on, the pouring of the first concrete is planned for the end of June 2017.

The basis for construction of Kudankulam NPP is JSC Atomenergoproekt design with power units VVER-1000 MW, which fully satisfies the requirements of up-to-date regulatory and technical documents of Russia, IAEA and is certified for compliance with European Utilities Requirements (EUR).
