OREANDA-NEWS. Han Fennema, CEO of infrastructure company Gasunie, has been appointed chairman of the board of the KVGN, the Dutch branch association of producers, suppliers, managers and policy makers in the gas industry. Fennema takes over the presidency from Gertjan Lankhorst, CEO of GasTerra, who had been chairman since 2012 and whose term of office expired this month.

Fennema: “The energy supply in the Netherlands is changing. As a gas sector, we are in the process of redefining our role in the energy transition, in consultation with other stakeholders. We see it as our responsibility to work with others to make the transition to a CO2-free energy supply possible. We want to cooperate with the government to look at how we can best deploy the currently available gas reserves and the existing infrastructure. The gas sector wants to be an open interlocutor on the basis of a new vision in which natural gas plays a custom role in a varied energy system. We call this ‘gas-to-measure’, with natural gas being used where there are no sustainable alternatives. At the same time, more and more green gas is used. The gas sector is working on concrete plans which contribute to a clean, reliable and affordable energy supply. We want to further develop and implement these, together with the stakeholders. I am proud that as the president of an active, innovative KVGN, I can contribute to this transition process."
