OREANDA-NEWS. A compromise on Nord Stream 2 is possible in 2 months, said German Economy Minister Peter Altmeier. Meanwhile, Ukraine will try to block part of the pipeline's capacity with the help of the European energy law. Thus, half of the capacity of the OPAL gas pipeline was limited, which connects the first similar Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream with the gas transmission system of Central and Western Europe.

The United States opposes Nord Stream 2, which doubles gas supplies from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea past Ukraine. According to the White House, the EU's dependence on Russian gas is growing. In addition, Ukraine will lose up to a third of state budget revenues after the gas pipeline is launched by the end of the year.

According to Altmeier, Berlin and Washington are close to a common solution - they are discussing avoiding dependence on Russian gas, ensuring energy security, protecting Ukraine's interests.

“I think that if all these aspects are put together, then compromise solutions will be possible, - said the minister. - We agreed that we will talk with each other, and not about each other. I am optimistic that a solution can be reached in the next two months. "

The two-line Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which doubles supplies from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea past Ukraine, is already being filled with gas and will be fully operational by the end of the year. The pipeline is laid next to the first operating Nord Stream gas pipeline. The capacity of the two "streams" is the same - 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany, past Ukraine.
