OREANDA-NEWS. The US will not include German companies in the list of sanctions against Nord Stream 2. Bloomberg reports this with reference to informed sources.

A report on the new restrictions can be submitted for discussion in Congress on Friday. The new list only mentions a small number of Russian-related organizations.

According to Bloomberg, the Joe Biden administration thus seeks to pursue two goals at once: to stop the implementation of the project and at the same time to avoid confrontation with a close European ally.

According to informed sources, the administration of former American President Donald Trump was going to impose sanctions against the German participants in the project, but did not manage to do so. Among the candidates for the list is the executive director of Nord Stream 2 AG Matthias Warnig.

In December, the construction of a 2.6-kilometer section of the gas pipeline in German waters was completed.

The first US sanctions against the construction of the gas pipeline were introduced in December 2019. Russia has repeatedly stated that this project is commercial and is beneficial to Europe. Berlin, realizing this, is in favor of completing the construction of the gas pipeline and rejects unilateral extraterritorial US sanctions.
