OREANDA-NEWS. The Bolivian authorities suspended the construction of a nuclear center in the city of El Alto, which was carried out jointly with the Russian state corporation Rosatom.

According to the head of the Bolivian energy agency, Juan Alfredo Romero, the fate of the project should be determined by the national parliament and the Prosecutor General’s Office. The official noted that the suspension of the project is connected with the claims of the current authorities against the former President Evo Morales. The latter allotted about 351 million US dollars for building a nuclear center without coordinating this decision with the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. Now the Prosecutor General’s Office is deciding whether the ex-head of state should bear responsibility for that. The national nuclear energy agency intends to conduct an audit and find out whether the standards of the project meet Bolivian requirements.

It is known that Rosatom has not received official statements about the suspension the construction of a nuclear center in Bolivia.
