OREANDA-NEWS Bulgaria is excluded from the European Union embargo on Russian oil imports until the end of 2024. This was stated by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, the Sofia Globe reports.

Following the results of the first day of the summit in Brussels, the leaders of the European Union reached a political agreement on the introduction of a partial oil embargo against the Russian Federation, which applies to oil supplies by sea. At the same time, oil coming through the pipeline will not fall into the new package of anti-Russian measures.

“Today, a general conclusion will appear, in which there are no exact details on countries, but in the real agreements, which will be published in two days, Bulgaria will have a separate clause with derogations specifically for us, until the end of 2024,” Petkov said.

He added that this exemption would help Bulgaria adapt its oil refining industry.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo said that after the introduction of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia by the European Union, Hungary and the Czech Republic will still be able to buy Russian oil.

On May 31, it became known that the leaders of the EU countries agreed on the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes an embargo on the import of more than two-thirds of oil from Russia, the disconnection of Sberbank from the SWIFT international financial messaging system, a ban on the broadcasting of three more Russian state media and the expansion of personal sanctions. regarding the Russians.
