OREANDA-NEWS. The European Court has confirmed that Germany has received a complaint about the decision of the European Court of Justice to limit Gazprom’s use of the OPAL gas pipeline capacity. "Germany’s appeal in the European Court against the decision of the European Court of Justice in case T-883/16 regarding the OPAL gas pipeline", the court said on Tuesday on Twitter.

In late November, the German Ministry of Economy and Energy told the Russian media that the German government filed a complaint on November 20. At the same time, the department indicated that the filing of the complaint “doesn't have an action suspending the decision of the court”. "Further proceedings in the European Court will be held in accordance with European procedural law", the ministry said.

In early September, the European Court of Justice in a Polish lawsuit annulled the 2016 European Commission decision, according to which Gazprom could use OPAL capacities to 100%, that is, 36 billion cubic meters. m per year. Now the Russian holding can use only 50% of the pipeline’s capacity. Following this decision, Gazprom cut OPAL supplies and began increasing gas transit to Europe through Ukraine.

OPAL is a branch pipe connecting Nord Stream with the gas transmission system of Central and Western Europe. Gas enters Germany to the border with the Czech Republic.
